How do I set gmail to auto-response to incoming messages?



Hey! I won’t be at home or at the office for the next Month. Perhaps you are expecting a mail that needs your urgent attention while you are away but you trust some else can do same on your behalf. Gmail lets you set up a very convenient auto-responder to mails when you are on vacation. It is also gives you the option of setting up the auto-responder to reply to only those in you contact list.

 


Auto-responder message is a message that informs a sender of your temporary absence or your inability to get back immediately. Follow the steps below to set it up.

  • Click the Settings gear in Gmail.
  • Select Settings from the menu that appears.
  • Make sure you are on the General tab.
  • Now make sure Vacation responder on is selected under Vacation responder.
  • Enter appropriate subject and message body text.
    • It is advisable to include when you will be able to get back to the sender or alternatively for matters of urgency, enter an alternative address the sender can contact.  
This is optional. You set a start and end date for your auto-responder. Find the steps below.
Set a start date – it could be the same day or following day.
Check Ends: Enter the date you want it to end.
Allow Gmail send details to only those in your contact list by check “Send response to people in my contact. This is will help you avoid replying newsletters.
  • Click Save Changes.
